Capsule Hotels

Four houses built on a repeating plan: the sleeping unit is fitted, identical and small, and the shared floors carry what the unit leaves out. Two of them belong to chains that run several addresses in the same city, so each entry names the address it describes. The rest of the text stays with what the building itself holds.

A plain corridor lined with identical compact sleeping units.

The entries

citizenM Paris Gare de Lyon

Paris, France

Capsule Hotel · Checked August 2026

A fitted compact room with a bed built wall to wall.

The house

This is one of several addresses the chain runs in Paris, and the entry describes the house beside the Gare de Lyon rather than the others. The plan is the chain's standard one: a fitted room built around a wall-to-wall bed, a shower pod, controls on a tablet, and one large ground floor with a bar, a canteen and long tables used as a working room.

The streets around

The station is across the street, which puts the fast trains to the south and the suburban lines within a few minutes on foot. The Bercy quarter and the river are behind the building, and the raised garden walk that runs above the avenue begins nearby and leads west towards the Bastille.

One thing to ask

Ask which address you have booked, because the chain runs more than one house in the city and the names are similar. It is also worth asking about the working tables and the meeting rooms on the ground floor, which are shared and can be taken over by a private group.

easyHotel Rotterdam City Centre

Rotterdam, Netherlands

Capsule Hotel · Checked August 2026

A narrow plain room with a bed and a shower cabin.

The house

The house belongs to a chain that fits identical narrow rooms along both sides of a corridor, and this is its central Rotterdam address rather than any other in the country. The rooms are small and plain, with a bed, a shower room and little else; there is no restaurant, and the ground floor holds a reception desk and a small seating area only.

The streets around

The building stands in the rebuilt centre, within walking distance of the shopping streets, the market hall and the tall blocks around the central station. The river and the old harbour basins are south of the hotel, reached in about twenty minutes on foot, and trams pass on the nearby avenue.

One thing to ask

Ask which extras are charged separately, since the chain keeps the room bare and adds items on request. Ask also which floor a room is on and whether it has a window, because parts of the plan face an internal wall and the difference is not always clear at the time of booking.

Sleeep

Hong Kong

Capsule Hotel · Checked August 2026

Closed sleeping cabins arranged in rows inside a plain room.

The house

The house was built around a fitted sleeping cabin rather than a room: a closed unit with a bed, a light that can be set, ventilation and a lock, arranged in rows within a floor of a city building. Washing rooms and lockers are shared and sit on the same floor. There is no restaurant, and the shared area is small and quiet by design.

The streets around

The building is one of many narrow blocks in the older part of the island, where the streets climb steeply between markets, print shops and tea houses. A metro station is a few minutes away on foot, and the escalator that runs up the hillside is close enough to use as a route home.

One thing to ask

Ask how the floors are arranged before you book, since some houses of this kind separate the cabins by gender and others do not. Ask as well about the luggage rules, because a cabin holds very little and cases are usually kept in a locked room off the corridor.

Space Inn Xinyi

Taipei, Taiwan

Capsule Hotel · Checked August 2026

Fitted sleeping units set in bays along a corridor.

The house

A fitted sleeping house on the upper floors of a city block, built from fitted sleeping units set in bays along a corridor. Each unit takes a mattress, a light and a shelf, with a curtain or panel closing it off; washing rooms, lockers and a shared sitting room are on the same floors. Luggage is kept outside the unit, in the racks provided.

The streets around

The block stands in the Xinyi district on the eastern side of the city, in streets of shops and small restaurants below the office towers. The tall landmark building and the covered markets around it are within a short walk, and the metro line that crosses the district has a station nearby.

One thing to ask

Ask which floor and which unit type you are booked into, as the house keeps more than one arrangement and they differ in width and in how they close. Ask about the quiet hours too, since the corridors carry sound and the rules on this are set by the house rather than by habit.

This site is independent and for reference only. Chains open, rename and close addresses, and the notes here follow published pages rather than any inside knowledge. The site is not connected to any hotel named here, sells nothing and takes no bookings. Confirm the address, the shared floors and the house rules with the hotel before you travel.
